I’m Vic Joshi, a native Bay Area resident and an independent home loan expert helping home buyers and investors with mortgage loans since 1997. I work with clients through my company, Straight Deal Mortgage, where I have access to over 100 lenders. I have access to nearly every available mortgage loan product available including FHA, VA, USDA, Non-Qm, Reverse Mortgage, and over 50 Jumbo lenders.
I work out of my penthouse office overlooking Oakland, California, and I’m currently licensed in California, Hawaii, Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Texas, and Florida. We both know that mortgage lending as it exists today has rules that make no sense. The mortgage process can be exhausting for clients, especially for first-time home buyers who don’t know where to turn for information or how to make decisions on one of the biggest financial transactions of their lives.
I’d like to form working relationships with a select group of
realtors who share my values and work ethic
to help clients create the best home loan experience possible. I currently work with a few realtors in my home San Francisco Bay Area regularly, but I’d like to build working relationships in more areas where I’m licensed.
My goal is to create comfortable and efficient working relationships with a few listing and buying agents who I can work with to make the home buying process the best it can be for our mutual clients.

I work well beyond bank hours and am generally available until late evening during the week and on the weekends. I try to be available when clients need me, when they themselves have odd working hours, their own commitments to work around, and for those who live in other time zones. - Patient guide

I’m driven to find the best loan solution for home buyers, and as a result of my over 25 years in the industry, I’ve pretty much seen it all. I’ve become a Mortgage Whisperer who can bust through those difficult deals our clients sometimes present us with, and I pride myself on getting the best result possible for clients.

Since I can perform the loan process from beginning to end myself, my offering is much more efficient and timelier than working through a bank that has an assembly line process where each part of the loan process is handled by a different people. I have become adept at working under pressure and deadlines so that I can usually perform at the last minute when needed.
Vic was one of four brokers that I contacted. Two were essentially non-responsive, which seems common for the industry and was an immediate red-flag. I worked with both Vic (who was recommended by my buying agent) and one other mortgage broker for the beginning of escrow, as I compared offers and learned about the process. This was my first home buying purchase. I wanted to be precise about my research on brokers, given that this is by far the most money I've ever spent, but the entire process is based on a lot of pointless documents flying around. This makes it impossible to stay on top of everything. Vic was helpful for understanding what was in these documents without having to study each one, although it was still important to read them to look for unexpected things. He also made sure that the whole process was explained in detail up front, which was helpful when questions came up -- I never found a cheat-sheet or at-a-glance calendar explaining the escrow procedure but his "Mortgage School" presentation is the next best thing. It covered things that I needed to know and that the other broker was not forthcoming about. Beyond that, Vic was very responsive to texts and emails. He strongly prefers phone calls to offline communication, which means plenty of personalized attention if that's what you want.Due to current market conditions, I'm expecting to refinance in the next year or two and both mortgage lenders offered a "no-cost-refi" when the time comes. This means I'll have to deal with the broker again. Given all of that, I ended up choosing Vic and Straight Deal Mortgage to handle my loan. With the refi, I have effectively chosen him for my next one as well. I have no doubt this was the superior choice.

He took plenty of time to explain the complicated and intimidating process of securing a loan for me & was always readily available when I needed him. We worked with Vic as our lender when buying our first house and had a great experience! I am a spreadsheet person. I love talking numbers, I love seeing different scenarios laid out next to each other, and in most situations I make a spreadsheet like that myself to help me grasp the whole picture. Vic makes that kind of spreadsheet himself and they were SO extremely helpful to us as we were sorting out how much we wanted to thin out or stretch our budget. There's a ton of information packed into one of those sheets but Vic was always willing and openly offering to schedule time together to go through each detail even though he himself has a very busy schedule. Despite all this he was always finding ways to accommodate us and when we needed things clarified he did a great job of breaking down what the numbers meant and why it may be advantageous to pick one scenario over another. Put another way, he really helped educate us in the loan process and language, rather than just giving us one number we were stuck with, so now thanks to him we're much better equipped going forward if we ever need a loan again or when we refinance.For our specific purchase things got a little wonky at the eleventh hour because it was a limited authority probate sale, but Vic rolled with the punches smoothly, he kept a cool head, took the time to carefully explain our very unusual situation, gently advised us which path would be best to follow, and then quickly turned things around in time for closing and got us a great rate given the current climate. I don't believe another lender would have been able to pull off such last minute changes in the middle of escrow but Vic kept the process rolling on through the finish line! After closing, it also seems he sends out a little newsletter in the physical mail that has some housing news and a little blurb about what he's been up to in his personal life which I think is really sweet. We'd definitely recommend him to others when they're looking for a lender and we'll also be speaking to him again when we eventually refinance. Thank you so much Vic!!
Vic Joshi is a rare combination of savage mortgage and finance guru and heart-centered, empathetic, real person. Our realtors told us he is the one they go to when things are sticky; that he has the creative solutions when other brokers hit a wall. We had a very complex situation: two self-employed earners with new businesses, student loans all complicated by the forbearance situation, co-signers, imperfect credit, etc. Vic guided us through several dark and thorny pathways, made us run when we had to and held our hand and encouraged us the entire time.
